CINCINNATI — Day 2 of Bengals minicamp featured a solid day for the defense.
Understanding that there are no pads allowed in minicamp and no full contact permitted either, minicamp is essentially an extension of passing drills and a chance to further work on communication on defense.
Joe Burrow appeared to be throwing with more force Wednesday after taking it easy on Tuesday.
When Burrow was targeting his receivers Wednesday, he was met with a good amount of resistance in coverage.
Germaine Pratt, Dax Hill and DJ Turner all took turns on breaking up Burrow passes.
In 7-on-7’s, Burrow tossed a pass for the far sideline and Andrei Iosivas made a leaping grab before Dax Hill knocked the ball away. Burrow then targeted Charlie Jones, Shedrick Jackson and Kendric Pryor, all three were knocked away.
Hill and Turner were matched up in individual skills. Hill was given first team run at left corner, opposite Cam Taylor-Britt. But Turner also got some time with the first team defense, alongside Hill, Geno Stone and Vonn Bell.
Other observations:
Thursday is final team activity until rookies report in late July with training camp opening several days later.
After finishing up work Wednesday, Taylor made his way east on Pete Rose Way with sons Brooks and Luke to take batting practice, and meet with Reds manager David Bell.
“We had it set up. So it was great. The timing worked out. It worked out for Zac and his boys. Their minicamp is winding down and the timing made sense. It was great just right in the middle of sharing a kind of a day with him and the boys and it’s always kind of like a baseball camp around here so they fit right in, and that’s nice.
“Obviously getting to know Zac a little bit, being able to just share some (experiences) being in somewhat of a similar job and being able to relate and spend some time together.”
